Awards Ceremony & Rising Star Award - Hannah Marks
Join us for the festival Awards Ceremony, celebrating the winning films from this year's festival. Prizes include Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary, Best Short Film, Best Student Film, Best Screenplay, and Audience Award.

The festival will honor actor, writer, director Hannah Marks with the Vail Film Festival 2019 Rising Star Award. Hannah Marks is the writer and lead actress in this year's Closing Night Film, Banana Split, screening directly after the awards ceremony. Hannah Marks and director Ben Kasulke will at the screening for a Q&A.

RISING STAR AWARD: HANNAH MARKS

Hannah Marks is an actress and filmmaker who was named one of Rolling Stone's 25 under 25 artists changing the world in 2017. Her first feature AFTER EVERYTHING fka SHOTGUN as co-writer/director premiered to rave reviews at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival where Hannah was also nominated for the Game Changer award. She became the youngest female studio director in history in early 2019 when it was announced she would helm the adaptation of John Green's best selling novel TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN.
As an actress, Marks has four films slated for 2019/20 release, including this year’s Vail Film Festival Closing Night Film, BANANA SPLIT, which she stars in, wrote, and produced. She was also the female lead of the television show Dirk Gently for BBC America/AMC Studios opposite Elijah Wood. Seasons one and two recently premiered on Hulu and can be seen on Netflix internationally.
Prior film credits include THE RUNAWAYS and Rose McGowan's DAWN which both premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Her other notable television work includes a three-season arc on Golden Globe nominated series Necessary Roughness and a two-season arc on Emmy nominated series Weeds.
The award presentation and Q&A with Hannah Marks will take place at the Vail Film Festival Awards Ceremony, followed by the screening of BANANA SPLIT, the festival’s Closing Night Film.
